Etsy· Listing Services

Etsy listing optimization, starting with the thirteen tags.

Tag strategy, long-tail titles, attributes and imagery rebuilt around how Etsy search actually matches queries — then measured on visits and conversion.

Overview

Etsy Listing Optimization, in plain terms.

Etsy gives every listing thirteen tags and most shops waste a third of them. Duplicating title terms, using single words that nobody searches alone, or repeating near-identical phrases that compete with each other.

Tags, title, attributes and category work as one matching system. Optimised together, a listing appears in searches it was previously invisible to — which on a search-led channel is most of the battle.

What this service includes

The work itself.

Scope is written down before the engagement starts, and the weekly review reports against it.
  • Tags Optimization

All thirteen tags used deliberately: multi-word long-tail phrases, no duplication of title terms, and no internal competition between near-identical tags. The highest-leverage routine work on Etsy.

  • Title Optimization

Titles front-loading the phrases buyers actually search, written to read naturally rather than as a keyword string — which Etsy's own guidance now favours.

  • Etsy SEO

The whole matching system managed together: tags, title, attributes, category and shop signals, tracked against search visibility over time.

  • Attribute Optimization

Completing the category attributes that feed Etsy's filters. Like item specifics on eBay, these determine filtered browse eligibility.

  • Description Optimization

Descriptions written in brand voice for the first few lines that appear before the fold, with the detail buyers need to commit below.

  • Listing Images

Image sequence specified against what the listing must prove — scale, material, use, packaging — with the first image tested for thumbnail legibility.

Who this is for

Where this earns its fee.

  • Shops with listings that get impressions but few visits — usually a title and tag problem.
  • Sellers whose tags were set once at listing creation and never revisited.
  • Makers whose products are excellent and whose copy is generic.
  • Shops entering a seasonal category who need indexation established early.

Our process

How we run etsy listing optimization

  1. 01

    Research

Search term research against Etsy's own search behaviour and your category's long-tail patterns.

  2. 02

    Rebuild

Tags, titles and attributes rewritten together so they complement rather than duplicate.

  3. 03

    Direct

Image sequence and description specified against the objections your reviews reveal.

  4. 04

    Measure

Search visits, favourites and conversion tracked against baseline, with tags revised where data indicates.

Why this matters

What it changes commercially.

Etsy traffic is overwhelmingly search-led. A listing that does not match a query does not get a poor position — it gets no position, and there is no browse behaviour to rescue it.

Tags are also cheap to change and quick to show effect, which makes this one of the few genuinely iterative optimization surfaces in marketplace work.

What we optimize

The metrics this is judged on.

Agreed before work starts, so nobody gets to pick a flattering one afterwards.

Search visits
Visits arriving from Etsy search. The direct measure of whether tags and titles are matching.
Impressions per listing
Whether the listing is surfacing in results at all.
Conversion rate
Whether the traffic converts once it lands, which tag work alone cannot fix.
Favourites
An early indicator of listing appeal, useful before sales volume is statistically meaningful.

Questions

Etsy Listing Optimization FAQ

Pricing, contracts and onboarding are answered on the full FAQ page.

How often should tags be reviewed?

Seasonally at minimum, and after any meaningful change in visits. Search behaviour shifts, particularly in gifting categories, and tags set twelve months ago are frequently matching last year's queries.

Will changing a listing reset its search ranking?

Etsy has historically applied a short period of volatility after edits. It settles, and the risk of leaving a poorly-matched listing alone is generally larger than the risk of editing it.

Do you write in our brand voice?

Yes, and on Etsy it matters more than on any other channel here. We will ask for examples of how you already write before producing anything.
